JANUS was founded in 1971 with capital investments by NUS Corporation of the United States, JGC CORPORATION, and TOKYO ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY to perform consulting services concerning nuclear energy development in Japan. At that time, NUS Corporation was the world's foremost nuclear energy consulting firm, and our company was named JAPAN NUS Co., Ltd. (JANUS).
Shortly after the company was founded, JANUS entered the environmental problem consulting business, and in 1974 received capital participation from THE KANSAI ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY INCORPORATED and CHUBU ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY INCORPORATED. Following the first oil crisis, JANUS expanded our consulting services from the nuclear energy field to energy fields in general.
During the 1980s, our company created an information network with domestic researchers, consulting firms as well as various overseas organizations in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia. During the 1990s we also advanced into system development businesses concerning science and technology. And, we also entered the consulting businesses concerning economic problems that are closely associated with energy problems and environmental problems.
In 1996, NUS Corporation was no longer a shareholder of our company, but we have not changed the name of the company because Japan NUS Co., Ltd. (JANUS) was a familiar name to many of our customers in Japan.
