Various unnecessary substances are discharged every day from the lives and industrial activities of modern people. While some of them are properly managed, such as ordinary household waste and industrial waste, some of them, such as marine debris drifted to the beaches, have unknown discharger. In addition, food that is originally eaten but thrown away is called food loss, and in Japan, about 6 million tons were generated in FY2018. Based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a goal has been set to halve food loss from households by 2030. To address these issues, we are working on measures for marine debris, promoting the circulation of plastic resources, and studying ways to reduce food loss.
Measures against Marine Litter
We provide various consulting services such as fact-finding surveys on marine debris, examination of collection processing and generation control measures, environmental education and dissemination and enlightenment.
Measures against Marine Litter
Plastic Resource Circulation
In order to promote the plastic resources circulation, we are investigating the management of contained chemical substances that may hinder recycling and investigating the factors that form the price of recycled products. In addition, we are considering the introduction of technologies and mechanisms to promote the replacement, collection, processing and recycling of plastics mainly in Southeast Asia, and as part of this, we are conducting activities in the CLOMA (Clean Ocean Material Alliance).
Food Loss
To reduce food loss, we are grasping the actual situation of food loss and formulating a reduction plan.
